The Østfold University College invites you to experience a night of science and mystery in Hessdalen on Friday, 25 September 2026.

Researcher's Night i Hessdalen
For several decades, unexplained light phenomena have been observed in the Hessdalen valley. What are researchers seeing? How are these phenomena being studied—and might you see something yourself?
The evening begins at 18:00 with a free public lecture at Hovet Cultural Centre in Ålen. From 19:00 until 04:00, the university’s research station at Mount Skarvan will be open to visitors. Researchers will present their work and explain how instruments and cameras are used to monitor the sky.
There will also be an accessible research base near Lake Øyungen, which can be reached by car. The exact location will be announced later.
Come and discover how scientists investigate one of Norway’s most enduring mysteries—and spend a night beneath the remarkable skies of Hessdalen.
The event is organised by Østfold University College as part of the Norwegian Science Week and is supported by the Research Council of Norway.
